Relaxed, Emotive & Timeless
Documentary Wedding Photography On The Isle of Wight
Hi, I'm SJ. I'm a documentary wedding photographer based on the Isle of Wight, but I travel across the UK and beyond to capture authentic, timeless images for couples who want a relaxed vibe.

Whether you are having a London Wedding at Claridge's, a Chateaux Wedding in France, or an alternative DIY celebration in your hometown, my approach is always the same.
To tell your love story!
I aim to capture your day exactly as it unfolds without the photography holding it hostage.
There are no awkward poses or hours away from your guests. It is the small, intimate details and moments that make up the big memories, and I document them all.
I capture the laughs and tears, the hugs with Nan's or shots with Gran's, fingers touching and holding hands.
Morning swims, dinosaur masks and dancing in the rain. Dresses hung up, doughnut trucks and rings exchanged.
I capture stolen glances, beaming smiles and a tender touch.
Wedding photography is not just about taking a picture. Anyone with a mobile phone can do that.
It is about truly capturing human connections and emotions and creating something you can feel, images that transport you back to a moment and make your senses spring to life.

Your Isle of Wight
Destination Wedding Photographer
I have been lucky enough to photograph hundreds of weddings over the past nine years, the majority of which are right here on the Island I call home.
I grew up exploring the beaches, downs and woodlands; seeing it become a Wedding destination in itself is a true joy.
I get to share my knowledge of the area and natural beauty with our couples and have been privileged to photograph almost every venue the Island has to offer.
So, if you are booking your wedding on our beautiful Island, you not only get a ready-made destination wedding photographer but a few extras, too.
A calming voice when the nerves kick in, an extra pair of eyes on the running toddlers, a tour guide, an organiser, timekeeper and mover of people or furniture.
I've been known to lace up a corset dress in a moment of crisis and soothe a baby in a moment of need.
Most importantly, you get a champion who is invested in you as a couple, your day, your story, and, in many cases, a new friend!

How Long In Advance Should We Book You?I recommend booking as early as possible if you would like to secure your date. Most couples book 12 - 18 months in advance. Popular dates can fill up quickly as I only take on 20 - 25 weddings per year.

What Areas Do You Cover? While I am primarily an Isle of Wight wedding photographer, I love to travel and cover weddings across the UK, Europe, and worldwide. Whether you're planning a local celebration or a destination wedding, I'm ready with my passport and camera to capture your special day. My documentary wedding photography style ensures that your unique story is beautifully told, no matter where you are.
-
Can We See A Full Gallery?Yes, absolutely! I encourage you to view a full gallery to get a true sense of my style. It’s important to see the consistency and quality of my work and how I handle different lighting, environments, and seasons. This will give you a better understanding of how your wedding photos could look and the reassurance that I can capture your day perfectly, regardless of the setting.

What Safeguards Do You Have In Place?During the day, I always have 2 cameras at all times, and every image I take is saved to 2 memory cards simultaneously. I separate these cards at the end of the day to prevent losing them. These are then backed up to a raid system in our office, A separate hard drive kept in our home (in case of fire or theft) and a cloud-based system; this ensures we keep everything safe after the wedding, and you never have to worry about corrupted cards or us losing your photos.
-
Do You Need To Visit Our Venue In Advance?I don't usually, but I am happy to on request. My documentary approach to wedding photography allows me to adapt naturally to the day's events and lighting conditions. I can quickly source the best locations depending on the time of day and the sun's direction, whether it is my first visit to a venue or I have photographed their regularly.

What Do You Do If You Are Ill?I have photographed over 150 weddings. This has never happened, but it doesn’t mean it couldn’t! With that in mind, I have a fantastic network of professional wedding photographers on the Island, south coast and mainland that I could call upon to photograph your day. They would be of the same level, quality and approach as me. They would photograph your day as planned using all the information and requests we would have already established. They would then deliver the RAW images to me to edit in my style, and I will continue the process until final delivery. I have never had to use this backup, but it is essential to have it in place.
-
How Long Until We Can See Our Photos? My current timeline for delivering your full wedding gallery is 6-8 weeks. However, I provide a preview gallery within the first week so you can relive some of the special moments a little sooner. Times can vary depending on how busy the season is and where we are in the schedule. When we agree to photograph a wedding, we don’t do so lightly. We understand what an honour and a privilege it is to be a part of each wedding, knowing these are the images you will look back on with love and fond memories for years to come. You will hang them in your homes, show them to your children and grandchildren, and remember fondly loved ones who may no longer be with you. These will remain treasured memories for generations. This is why we never rush a wedding, no matter if it's the first or last of the season or how much pressure we are under. Every single image we deliver is always the best we can make, ensuring your wedding photos are perfect and timeless."

How Many Photos Will We Receive? On average, you can expect to receive between 500-700 photos. I don't place a limit on the number of images; you will receive all of the unique moments captured throughout your day. Each photo is carefully hand-edited to make sure it looks its best, giving you a heartfelt and beautiful collection of memories from your wedding day.

What Is Your Style/Approach?My style of wedding photography is deeply rooted in documentary storytelling. I am passionate about capturing your day's genuine emotions and natural moments without all the awkward poses or the photography controlling the day. I approach weddings with a relaxed vibe, blending in with your guests rather than fading into the background. I enjoy chatting with family and friends hearing their stories about our couples. This builds trust and breaks down barriers, resulting in authentic candid photos. One bride summed it up perfectly in a recent email: "I saw a review saying something along the lines of "you barely notice Steve at your wedding", however I had no idea how true that would be. A few times throughout the day something interesting would happen and I'd quickly exclaim "oh my gosh where's Steve?!" and every single time someone would say "right there" and point you out mere feet away from me. After a handful of times I stopped asking! I'm convinced at this point that you're able to teleport!"
